3/12 Spring Concert
The Spring Concert is fast approaching! It is Thursday, March 28th at 6 pm. Band students should arrive at 5:40 and go down to the locker rooms to assemble instruments. Please make sure all students have their music! See email for dress code. 2/15 - 7/8 Band Song
Attention 7/8 band families: You should have received an email from me with with PDFs and recordings of a new song. Please let me know if you did not! Happy practicing! 1/15/19 - Practice Logs
After much thought, I have decided to re-institute the practice log system. Students will come home each Tuesday with a log sheet that has practice assignments for the week (Tuesday-Monday). Logs will be turned in each Tuesday and will be counted as part of the Preparation grade. They do not have to be signed this year. This will help students stay organized with what to practice at home! 1/8/19
Welcome back to band! I hope that you had a wonderful break and holiday. As we transition back to band, a reminder that it is expected that students practice outside of our band class. In 7/8 band today, we talked about accountability and what that means for our class. As we progress through the year, the music will get more difficult and will require more time outside of class. 11/26
Our annual Christmas Program is fast approaching! Students are gearing up for their performance. At home, students should be practicing at least 20 minutes 3x a week. Students will be completing a practice schedule on Thursday, 11/28 to help organize practice time during the busy holiday season! As stated in the handbook, practice is essential for success in beginning band, and is also a required part of the curriculum. Happy practicing! 9/6
We had an awesome first band "rehearsal." We did icebreakers and get-to-know-you-activities that helped build our team. Some students still do not have instruments, that is ok for this week but please try to send students to school with their instruments on Tuesday as we will be playing next week. We have band every Tuesday and Thursday. 8/21: BAND NIGHT is 9/5
This year's Band Night will be held on September 5th from 5:00 pm -6:30 pm. Kennelly Keys will be bringing instruments to rent, essential cleaning and maintenance equipment for each instrument, and books/folders/music stands for your student. All new band students are required to attend with a parent or guardian. While students will not be allowed to try out the instruments at band night, I have a selection of beginning band instruments that your student is welcome to try before Band Night. Our band instrument list has expanded this year! Please see below for a list of instruments students are able to select from. If the instrument your student would like to play is not on the list, please contact me. Flute Clarinet Bass Clarinet Alto Sax Tenor Sax Trumpet Trombone Tuba Percussion - bell combo kit In addition, students will be able to pick up their method book. It is called Accent on Achievement (BOOK 1), and can be found online, at most music shops in the area, or can of course be purchased at band night. If you are a continuing band parent, please feel free to drop by and say hello to the new band parents! If you have any questions about what your student needs for band this year, please don't hesitate to ask. |
